Fuerteventura - The
Jewel of the Spanish Canary Islands: The Land of Eternal Summer
With virtually the same
climate as Florida and Mexico, Fuerteventura is like an all over
tonic where you can't help but feel the stresses and strains of a
North European winter disappearing over the horizon with the
setting sun. For clouds and rain imagine a seamless stretch of
sapphire blue with 360 days of sunshine per year; for the fumes of
traffic torment think clean ocean breeze from a coastline never
far away; for industrial hi-rise cities picture sugar cube
villages and tiny fishing hamlets. There are a total of
152 beaches offering something for everyone. Some are wild and
lonely, like something out of Robinson Crusoe, while others bustle
with tourist action. The landscape of Fuerteventura is the total
opposite of its near neighbour (Lanzarote) and most visitors
cannot believe that the beaches stretch for mile after mile with
golden sands and dunes - no black sand or volcanic rock - just
endless beaches in a colourful Andalusian like architectural
landscape of peach, red, and yellow houses that combine to provide
a colour backdrop to this island which is undoubtedly deserves its
reputation as the 'Jewel of the Canary Islands' where you cab bask
in a 'Land of eternal summer'.
